A gastrectomy is a full or partial removal of the stomach, often done to remove stomach cancer or to treat bleeding and inflammation.

Commonly used to treat cancer, this procedure uses four small incisions in the patient’s abdomen. The stomach cancer is removed from the surrounding tissues and organs and is removed. It may also be used for weight loss.
