What is it
This procedure happens when there is an obstructed bile duct system, which inhibits bile drainage from the liver. A small tube is inserted into the liver in order to drain the bile.
How to prepare
You may need to stop taking or change the dosage of certain medications leading up to the procedure. You may drink a total of 12 ounces of clear liquid between the midnight before your procedure and two hours prior to your procedure.
What happens during the process
During this procedure, you will be under a type of anesthetic or sedation. A small incision is made in the abdomen, through which a small tube is inserted into the liver through which bile is drained.
