Many patients with heart defects take blood-thinners. These medications are used to prevent clotting. There are many different ways to take these medications. Patients can be given oral, intravenous, subcutaneous medications. Some oral medications include Aspirin, Clopidogrel, and Warfarin. They stop clotting by affecting the platelets in the blood.
